Tate's Lookout
Bridge

At the south end of Southbridge Development in Adel, we built a pedestrian bridge over Twin Oaks Pond.  We named it Tate’s Lookout Bridge and here’s the story:

"After moving into our home in the summer of 2023, I became familiar with a certain man and his dog. I grew accustomed to seeing George and his beagle, Tommy Girl, walking along the roads. For a long time we would just smile and wave at each other as we passed by.  Like George, I enjoy being out and about, usually riding my dirt bike, so we would see each other often.

One day I was out riding.  It had rained quite a bit that week, so the ground was soft and muddy.  Before the walking trail was poured, we used a makeshift trail which was created by the construction workers.  This path went way up high above the pond where I could see everything.  I noticed George coming my way on his normal walk with Tommy Girl.  I didn't think much about it but after several minutes I couldn't see him anymore. It was like he disappeared. I rode down toward the road searching for him and eventually spotted him stuck in a low point of deep mud.  He was on his hands and knees and it looked like he was sinking deeper and deeper.  I hurried to find a safe spot for my bike and leaned it against a t-post.  I walked through the muck until I reached him.  Together we worked his way out of the predicament.  The mud was so thick and deep it pulled his shoes right off!  As Tommy Girl watched, she seemed excited. I bet she wondered what strange game we had come up with. Eventually, his shoes were kicked clean enough to wear and we went on our way.  After that day, when I see George it feels like seeing a friend."

If you look closely, you might see Tommy Girl’s paw prints in the concrete at the end of the bridge.
